OBITUARY

MASTER DOUGLAS MacDONALD Profound regret will be felt throughout the Gisborne and Tolaga Bay districts to-day at the announcement of the death of Master Douglas William Ewen MacDonald, eldest child and only soil oi Mr. and Mrs D. G. Stuart MacDonald, of Tolaga- Bay. The lad was scarcely 1/ years of ago, ami his‘untimely death will occasion deep regret amongst his schoolmates of the Tolaga Bay District High School.

Some years ago Master MacDonald contracted a serious iliness, but after lie had leceived treatment- extending ovc" a lengthy period lie was believed lo have been entirely freed from flic disease. A fortnight ago on Saturday, however, while playing in a football match at Tolaga Bay h * received a blow which caused such severe pain that ho was brought down with all haste to the Cook Hospital, where he was operated upon the same night. The operation revealed the fact that he was still suffering fiom his old illness, and although so' oral operations have since been performed, ids life could not he saved, and he passed away at 4 p.m. yesterday, death coming ak a happy relens v from a period of what would live been to many unbearable agony. Despite his tender yeais, Master MacDonald bore the pain ol' his illness during the past fortnight with great fortitude, and was conscious throughout until life time of ids death. The deceased lad possed a charming disposition, wis a been end successful scholar, and was an enthusiastic player in till branches of school sport, and during the years he was a, pupil at the To Hapara School, and at the Tolaga Bay High School lie won great popularity amongst the, teachers and scholars alike.

Sincere sympathy in their bereavement will be , xtended to Mr. and Mrs. Mac,Donald, and the deceased's three young?.r sisters. Meater MacDonald was the only grandson of ti-n late Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald. The funeral left Mrs. Winter’s residence, Bayly street, at 2 p.m to-day for the Tarpheiu Cemetery.
