LICENSING DROVERS REMIT TO CONFERENCE The deep-rooted suspicion that thorp has been a great deal of sheep stealing in the district was again mentioned at to-day's meeting of the Poverty Kay executive of the N.Z. Fanners' Union, when it was suggested that an endeavor should be made to have a supplementary remit included for the Dominion ion fereuco Hyging that legislation shoidd be passed making it obligatory, on the part of drovers to carry with them documents showing the numbers of sheep which should Ive legally in their possession.
Mr. J. C Graham said that at dipping time one station owner was I.CCO sheep short, it being estimated that 400 of these had died*. It was not known what had happened to the remaining 600. It was suggested that drovers should be licensed; in a manner similar to that in which motor car drivers were licensed. but this did not meet, with unanimous approval. The, president, Mr. P. S. Bowcn, suggested that a great deal of information might he obtained front Australia, where there had been considerable trouble in that connection, and some scheme mighi be devised to suit local conditions. The president and Mr. Graham were deputed to interview Colonel Pow in order to see whether it would lie possible to.have a supplementary remit put before the Dominion conference.
