THE WEATHER
(Last Night’s Forecast). The Dominion Meteorologist's summary and forecast areas follows: A series of low pressure waves extends between the Chat hams and Tasmania. An anti-cyclone is advancing on to Eastern Australia. Moderate to strong south-west to noith-west, winds reaching gale form at times about Cook and Fouveaux Straits. 'Sens rather rough south of Cape Egmont, rough in Foyeaux Strait, and still a considerable swell south of Castlepoint, elsewhere moderate. Moderate to strong south-west to north-west winds in the eastern Tasman Sea. Rather-,'rough seas in the southern portion, and moderate in the northern portions. Weather mainly fair, but cloudy in districts with a westerly aspect, with some scattered showers. Some, inland frosts in the South Island, ’but temperatures otherwise moderate. . (To-day’s North Island Report.) Light north-west to - south-west breezes, with blue sky showing at all reporting stations, prevailed over the North Island this morning. Barometer readings were igh, and showed little variation. Temperatures at 9 a.m. ranged from 63 at Cape Maria to 54 at East Cape; Auckland’s reading being 60, Gisborne 56, Napier 58 and Wellington 57. Auckland reported moderate rain last night, fyetis were rough atCastlepoint, bub moderate to smooth elsewhere. (Midday Forecast.) The indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds.
