The Horowilienua Fower Board recently considered fl proposal to acquire land for the purpose of growing timber for poles. The matter was referred to a committee which made an unfavorable report, pointing out that 'by the time the trees had reached maturity some other material, such as concrete or steel, might be used for poles. The report was adopted. Mr. Norman Hyde, of Hunterville, has written offering a camp site to the Wanganui Automobile Association, on the Onga road, about half a mile from the Post Office (says the Chronicle). He proposed to erect- swings, Maypole, and seesaws for children and a cricket, pitch. Dr. Porritt remarked that the association did not often get letters like that, and it was decided to write thanking the donor for his offer, which marked a fine, public-spirited example of generosity. , DEERSTALKER'S EXPERIENCE. Most of us have heard the phrase: "Water, water, everywhere, but not a drop to drink.'' The experience of Mr. McKinley Kirby whilst deer-stalking in the back country was much more plea Bant. Whilst out shooting he discovered that he had lost his tobacco polish. It contained a tobacco which he fount' much to his liking, being mild aromatic, cool-burning and dry-smoking, but if was very expensive. His mate handed him a tin of Edgeworth and ho got the biggest surprise of his smoking expcii ence, for his pipe tasked just as good lis it ever had with the other brand, and was quite a lot cooler too. Since then Mr. Kirby has discarded the expensive tobacco'and has smoked nothing bu. Edgeworth.*
