RIFLE SHOOTING
GISBORNE DEFENCE CLUB EASTER MEETING COMMENCED The Gishornc Defence Rifle Club's annual Easter shoot was commenced yesterday, when there was a large gathering of competitors at the Manga papa range, the ranges fired at being 200, 300, 500, and 600 yards. The programme included a cadet match for a silver cup presented by the club for youths who had been practising with the club throughout the season, and the trophy was annexed by N. Choveaux, who, with 44, secured the highest aggregate over the 200 and 300 yards ranges. In the sweepstakes for club members J. Faulkner won-the 300 yards match, .1 Pirie the 500 yards, and Frank Field the 000 yards. At the last-men tinned range there, was a keen contest for first place between the veteran, R. Breingan, and Field, a junior member, and although Breingan scored six bulls-eyes in succession, resulting in a tie with his opponent, he was counted our on his last shot. The aggregate on the day's shooting was won by Breingan, with a total of 1.14, J. Firio being second with 110, and J. Faulkner third with 104.
