POSITION IMPROVES
BRITISH COALFIELDS MORE MINERS AT WORK (British Official Wireless.) Bee. 10 a.in. RUGBY, Feb. 7. There are some indications that the position in the coalfields is improving, and it is estimated that of 30,000 additional men which later official returns show to he employed, at least 10,000 have found work in Northumberland and Durham coalfields. Relief organisations are now working smoothly in all tho distressed areas. Voluntary subscriptions to the Lord Mayor’s relief lund have reached £650,000. The House of Commons has already sanctioned the payment of £150,000 in accordance with the Government’s promise to contribute an amount equivalent to that publicly subscribed. The Prince of Wales, in conversation with the Premier this week, gave him an impression of his recent tour of the distressed areas in Northumberland and Durham. There has been no further disturbance at the Nine Mile Point colliery, where an additional 70 poiice have been poured in from the surrounding districts. A large crowd assembled hut did not attempt to interfere with the police or a single miner who went to the colliery. The owners are conferring with the miners with a view to a settlement of the dispute.
