{Herald Correspondent.) Sister Jessie, who is well known for her work among tho Maoris, was in Wairoa a few days ago. She proceeded on to Waikaremoana. —Father McGrath, of tho Maori Mission, Wellington, is expected to visit tho district next week. —Mrs. It. 11. Mowat has been appointed secretary of tho Plunket Society till tho end of March. —Mr. G. C. Ormond left for Napier to-day to attend the funeral of his old friend, Sir Douglas MacLean, one of tho most prominent and libera] settlors of Hawke’s Bay. Next week Father McGrath, of the Wellington Maori Mission, will conduct a mission in the Catholic Church of St. Teresa, North Clyde, Father La Pretre being the interpreter. In continuation of the Dillon doubles, rowing, Gemmell and Poyzer (scr.) defeated Grant and Halpin by three lengths. Boyle and Chicken (ssec.) beat Pemberton and Stewart (4sec.). The losers made a very bad start.
