The New York Times states that it has been learned from authoritative sources that General Stimson, the Philippine Islands GovernorGeneral, has been offered and has accepted the post of Secretary for State under Mr. Hoover. General Stimson, who was backed by Senators Elihu Root and Charles Hughes, has often been mentioned for the position, and is now preparing to leave .Manila for the United States. The Times states thai General Stimson is highly fitted for the post. Colonel Lindbergh to-day refused to comment on the report that he will be assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aviation. General Stimson, who is 01 years of age, has been Governor-General of the Philippine Islands since last year, lie was trained for the law and from 1906 to 1909 was U.S.. Attorney* in New York. In 1910 he was the Republican candidate, for Hie Governorship Of New York, while the following year he became Secretary of War in President. Taft's Cabinet. He served with the American Expeditionary Force in Prance from December, 1917, until August of the following year, holding the rank of colonel. In W-7 he was the special envoy of President Coolidge to settle the revolution in Nicaragua.
