NUHAKA NOTES

(Hera.'d Correspondent.) Tlie members of the Nuhaka Women's Institute, partly with a view to making the institute more widely known, launched out on a new venture by holding a large picnic of a public nature at Opoutama, and a tine measure of success crowned their efforts. Settlers from all over the district threw in their lot with the picnickers, and a happy time was spent/, swimming, running events, and games being indulged in. Mr. G. D. Tod, in the absence of the president, Mrs. Tod, who that clay presented her husband with a, daughter, acted as M.C., and had with him a host of willing workers. So successful was (he picnic that (he opinion was freely expressed that it should be made an annual function. Mr. While, of Napier, who i.s on the relieving staff' of the Postal Department. is stationed at Nuhaka on relieving duty, and i.s staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. Pearson; he expects to be in Nuhaka for several weeks.—Mr. and Mrs. Seebeck, late of Wairoa, where Mr. Seelicck was teaching, have taken up residence at Opoutama, Mr. Seebeck having accepted an appointment with (lie school there. Miss Driimmond, of Hastings, has resumed her duties as first assistant at the Opoutama school.—After an enjoyable holiday. Miss Horton. of Hastings, has returned to fake charge of (he Nuhaka. pakeha school. —Miss Rose-i-ear. -of Dunedin, lias returned from her holiday to resume duty as first assistant at the Whakaki school. The Nuhaka native school reopened ye'terdav with 'ts full staff of teachers and a large roll of scholars.
