INTER-CLUB CONTEST The inter-club contest between the Kahutia and Poverty Bay Bowling Clubs was commenced yesterday and will be concluded to-morrow. Five links from the latter dub visited the Kahutia’s green, and the games were well contested and played in a real friendly manner. On the day's play Kahutia are leading with one win more than their opponents. To-iuor-row the town players journey over to the Poverty Bay green, where the eontest will be concluded. ENGLAND TO SPEND £60.000,000 ON ROADS LONDON, Dec. 22. I he sum of .£60,000,000 wili be spent in road construe! ion in England in the coniine year. 1 Ids includes £20,000.000 Government appropriation from the road fund. This is part of the Government scheme to assist England's increasing unemployed. As War Secretary Sir Laming Wort hington-Kvuus announced in the House, of Commons that every £1,000,000 spent in road-building provides work for 2000 men for a year.
