END OF NEXT MONTH INCREASE OF SETTLEMENT The projected Ministerial visit to Poverty Pay apparently will take place some time towards the end ol next month, according to advice leeeived at yesterday s meeting of the Gisborne Clumber of Commerce trc.in the Minister of Lands, the lion. The chamber had approached the Alinister on the matter ot the need for closer .settlement in the district, and his reply, dated January 24. was as follows: "I am in receipt, of vour letter of 19th instant and have icid with interest your references to the necessity of closer .settlement throughout the Gisborne district. As von are aware, it is the policy of the present Government to increase settlement wherever praolicnMe, and already steps are being taken with a view to early inauguration of that policy. “I desire to thank your clumber for its invitation to make an official visit to Gisborne and am pleased to he able In inform you that I hope to ho able to do so in about four weeks’ time. The member for your district, will be advised of the itinerary as soon as '.t lias been arranged. I shall probably he accompanied by other Ministers interested m development works.” The hope was expressed that all members of the chamber would endeavor to meet the Alinisters on their arrival in < lishorne.
