WHITE SLAVERY
MUSHROOM THEATRICAL OOYS. MELBOURNE. Jan. 22. A report on the questionnaire sent out by the Geneva Conference, seeking world wide information on the international white slave traffic, is being propared by the secretary of the Theatrical Employees’ Union, Air. Huckerby, who alleged that the root of the evil in Australia, is the mushroom theatrical companies, which lure girls with promises ol fanciful salaries. The report, which will be made through the Commonwealth AttorneyGeneral, Mr. Latham, will say that, while it is dii'Unit to prove that girls are taken away from their home States overseas, or to another part of A list ia - lia for this purpose* it is significant that, in many eases, tluw finish up in some slum, or are left penniless, to find their own means of getting back borne.
