JOHNSON BEATS GILLESPIE A TERRIBLE BATTERING (Elec. Tel. Copyright-—United Press Assn.) SYDNEY, Dee. 30. At the Stadium, Kid Johnson, featherweight, lightweight and bantam champion of the Orient, made his first appearance and gave Norman Gillespie a terrible battering. Using both hands like a threshing machine, he dropped Gillespie for nine in the first round. Again he dropped his opponent in the second round for six, when the police stopped the contest, Johnson being declared the winner. HAY DEFEATS TROWERN (Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, last night. Before a large house, Artie Hay (holder), 10st ofilb, defeated Reg. Trowern (challenger), l()st 51b. for tlio welter-weight championship. The fight went the full distance and was of an even nature, Hay winning on points. The decision met with a mixed reception. SIIARKEY-STRIBLING BOUT (United Service.) NEW YORK, Dee. 30. Tex Rickard has matched Sharkey and Stribling for February 27 at Miami Beach. The winner will probably meet Jack Dempsey for the championship.
