(P.A. Messages.) Winnie. Matthews, a Maori child, aged four months, was found dead in bed at her parents' home, I'akotai, near VVhangarei, on Boxing Day morning. The child had been sleeping with its mother, and a blanket bail covered its face. Pleading guilty to a charge of having laid totalisafor odds on Awapuni racecourse yesterday. Reginald ijerton Semb Was fined £lO in the Police Court at Palmcrston North ibis morning. The accused was noticed banding change to people, and this led to bis arrest. William Remnant was fined £lO and his licenso cancelled for six months at Palmcrston North this morning on n charge of being drunk in charge of a ear.
