The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Mail states that Siemens, the great German electrical concern, announce a record net profit of £1.750,000 for the year. THE NATIONAL MUTUAL. Mr. E. W. Nicholson, manager for New Zealand of the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia, Ltd., lias received the following cable message from the head office in Melbourne: “The fifty-ninth annual general meeting of members was held on December 18, 1928. The new business for the year was exceptionally satisfactory, 20,728 new policies having ’been issued for £9,807,845, an increase of £573,132 over the previous year’s total. The total income for the year was £4,930,596, an increase of £551'.798. The very large amount of £2.441,176 14s 3d was added to the assurance fund which amounted to £29,147,329 18s 6d. The amount payable to policy-holders or their representatives during the year was £2,750,038 7s 4d. The rate of interest earned on the mean funds was £5 10s lid. The ratio of expenses continues to show a material i decrease. Members may expect to receive their bonus certificates on or before March 1, 1929.’’ LONDON MARKET PRICES. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week :—Butter : The market is steady at 182 s to 186 s. Cheese: Quiet; white 97s to 98s, colored 99s to 100 s. Wethers: There is a better inquiry and the outlook is brighter. Ewes:" The market is firm with an upward tendency. Lambs : Tho market is firm, moderate business done. Beef: The market is well supplied. There is a little better demand.
