Air Alervyn Alaude, of Wellington, is visiting his home in Gisborne for the Christmas vacation. Airs Brndlcy-Smith and Aliss B. Bradley left yesterday for a visit to Wellington. Afessrs. P. 11. Pettit, W. Irwin, and F. V. Carpenter arc visitors to Auckland for the holidays. Air'S. Porter is the guest of Mr and Airs F. Humphreys at Lake Rotoiti. Messrs. H. Stovell and P. Pit tar motored to Hamilton during the weekend to spend Christmas with Air. and Airs P. Pittar. Air and Airs K. G. Runciman and Air Al. Connell are the guests of Air and Airs A. L. Atuir. Airs P. AfcSweeney and Miss R. Barry arc spending the holidays in Auckland. Air. G. I. Parker is a visitor to Lake Taupo, whore he is fishing during'the ho l idays. Air. and Airs A. Pittar were the guests of Canon and Airs H. Pa eke, the vicarage, for Christmas. Dr. A. Blair, of Wellington, was the guest of Air and Airs .T. Blair, who are now occupying their beach cottage at Wainui. Air and Airs ,T. B. AYilliams, of Wharekopae, were the guests of Airs Potts, Palmerston North, for the holiday season. Mr and Airs Percival Barker are staying at their cottage at Lake Rotoiti. Air and Airs Bellerby, Wharekopae, were visitors to Hawke As Bay last week. Dr. and Airs E. E. Brown are enjoying a motor trip to Wanganui and other places of interest en route. Air. and Airs L. Afiles and their daughter are the guests of relatives in Wellington. Air and Airs C. H. Wells spent Christmas with relatives. Aliss L. Bain is the guest of Airs Wyllie in Napier for the holidays. Dr. Kirker. of Auckland, is the guest of Airs Kirker for the festive season. Aliss Vidal, of Dunedin, is staying with Airs A. M. Pnflett. Aliss Wooton and Mr Wool on are the guests of Airs Hunt, Clifford street. Air and Mrs E. Edmonds and Aliss Pride are camping at Euakituri for the holidays and enjoying fishing. The engagement is announced of Nan, only daughter of Airs and the late Mr A. G. .Jeffrey, of Te Aroha. Pehiri, Poverty Bay, to Alan, only son of Air A. C. Steele, of Talmngn. Miss Winifred Wotton, Wanganui, is the guest of her grandmother, Airs Iveson, Gisborne. Airs O’Shea (Wellington), is visiting her daughter, Airs Pat Holden. Airs Wilford, according to cabled advice received by the Hon. T. AI. Wilford, will leave London for New Zealand on January 2. Airs E. E. D. Alilligan, of Christchurch, will leave early in January for a trip to the United States, where she hopes to study the modern school of theatrical work from the producer’s viewpoint. Alisses Winnie and Edna WhiteParsons (Lyttelton) have left for Napier, to visit their uncle, Captain White-Parsons. Later they will visit Rotorua, Gisborne and Tolaga Bay. Donna Sapio Clifford (Varese. Italy), accompanied by her small daughter, intends leaving Italy early in the New Year for New Zealand, to visit her Barents, Sir George and Lady Clifford, Christchurch.

TENNIS. The tennis courts were forsaken by a large number of members in favor of .jnore pressing attractions on Saturday afternoon, but tliere were still enough players to occupy all the courts. At Kaiti afternoon tea was dispensed from a flower-decked table by Misses M! Broadhurst, J. Blair and C. Bright. Among the players were Mesdamcs Beattie, Alisan, 11. D. Chrisp, and D. Chrisp. and Misses J. Graham, M. Muir, P. Seymour, M. and E. Hcgarty, B. and S. Chrisp, Puflett (3), Ormond (2), M. Bull, R. Kemp. J. Blair. _H. Cummings, C. Bright, Vidal (Dunedin), ,T. Tiffen, D. Jeune, and M. Broadhurst. At Whataupoko the hostesses were Misses N. Leslie and M. Thodey. and the tea-table was offset with a bowl of pastel-tinted sweet-peas. Those present included Mesdamcs Stock, Peacocke, Lissant-Clayton, H. King, J. Wauchop, B. C. Jeffreys, 0. Ormerod, Coombe, S. F. Clare, G. Wfflock, B. Jardine, and Kobinson, and Misses A. Gray, R. Wauchop, M. Thodey, F. and I. Hunt, Wooten, M. Maeaulay, P. deLautour and N. Leslie. A CHRISTMAS-EVE PARTY A jolly party organised by Miss Hilda Sherriff visited the borne of Mr and Mrs C. Sherriff, Kaiti, on Christmas Evo and thoroughly en,joyed the occasion with daneing and music. Some of the guests were in fancy costumes, and numerous paper frocks were contrivted in bright colours, which added to the gaiety of the evening. The hall, verandah, and an adjoining room were cleared for dancing, and decorated with palm fronds and rosettes of colored paper. In the drawingroom bowls of crimson. cactus dahlias, and blue love-in-the-mist were prettily arranged, and a delicious supper was served in the diningroom, where the table was gay with vases of pale pink geraniums and blue love-in-the-mist. Mrs Heeney played all the latest dance tuDes, which were repeatedly encored, and extras were supplied by some of the guests, including Misses

Marjorie Allan and Nell Corson. Mrs Sherriff was attired in a becoming frock • of navy blue georgette worn over fawn georgette and trimmed with iletdiole' embroidery. Miss Mollie Sherriff was frocked in a charming frilled paper dress in a pastel shade, and Miss Noll Sherriff ’« frock had a tight-fitting bodice and full paper-fringed skirt offset with colored paper flowers. Little April Sherriff’s gay paper frock was fashioned to represent an orange cracker and she wore headgear to^iatbh. Those present included Misses Bain (2), B. and S. Chrisp, C. Bright, M.
