For the Poverty Bay and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association’s annual championship and handicap tournament, to be held on Boxing Day and the three days following, entries have been received in large numbers by the secretary of the association, Mr. G. B. Mirfiold. The handicap events are more extensively patronised than the championships, hut nevertheless there should l>c a good representation in the scratch events. In connection with the men’s championship singles, .it is understood that X. 11. Bull, holder of the district championship, will not he competing this year, he having made up his mind to make a bid for honors at one of the southern tournaments. This should make a big difference to the competition locally, for after N. H. Bull, in order of merit, there are a number of players who should have good chances of annexing the honor. In order to give every player who wishes to enter for any class in the tournament the opportunity to do so, it lias been decided to keep the entry list open until Wednesday 'or Thursday.
