SALVATION ARMY HEAD
DIVISION OF OPINION (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, Dec. 13. The Daily Mail says that the summoning of the High Council of the Salvation Army to decide General Booth’s fitness to retain office has caused the formation of two sections of opinion, one intent on the continuance of the Booth family dynastic control, the other advocating the revision of the army’s constitution, because the system vesting the control of its possessions and operations in one man has outgrown its usefulness.
It is contended that the army is no longer solely a religious body; it is a huge commercial financial concern, employing thousands, for which it is thought the constitution should be altered 1o provide for boards of trustees 1o limit the general’s autocratic power. It is contended also, instead of the general nominating his successor, the army should select its owa leader.
