TASMAN FLIER
MR. M C WILLIAM’S PLANS
FUTURE OF WIRELESS
/Special to the Herald.)
AUCKLAND, this day
Mr. T. H, MeWilliam, radio operator of the monoplane Southern Cross, is again in Auckland, lie is at present on holiday and is waiting for a cable message from Major Kingsford .Smith in reference to a further flight. He informed a Sun representative that Major Kingsford Smith and Captain lTin had decided to go to America, and possibly to England. It is also probable that the Southern Cross would be flown from Honolulu to America, and in that event lie wouldbe going as wireless operator, and Mr. 11. A. Litchfield as navigator. He would be informed by cable as soon as anything definite had been decided. Speaking of the return trip to Australia, Mr. MeWilliam said it was very heavy going and they wore all tired out when at last they effected a landing. In future flights, he thought a big flying boat which could ride out a storm would be necessary. “L have great confidence in the machine, however, and great conlidenco in Major Kingsford Smith. I am sure that with him at the helm the Southern Cross would take us anywhere.”
Referring to the value of wireless for navigation purposes, Mr.’ M e William said there was a great future in store for it. In America they flew almost entirely by the beam system.
