SIX DEAD
GAS MAIN BURST THREE FAMILIES GASSED LONDON, Dee. 1. Six people wore killed and 11 are in hospital as the result of the bursting of a gas main in Sheffield street, Stockport., to-dav. Heavy traffic broke the main and three entire families, in adjoining houses, were affected by the gas. A neighbor, Walter Keen, was awakened at night time by a strong smell of gas, and heard a hcrjvy thud next door. Lie broke in and found the Costello family of live, including a woman of 7b, insensible. He roused tin 1 neighborhood and called the police.
ft was then discovered that six members of the Watts family were unconscious. The police entered the middle house and found the mother, Ethel Baker, and three children, including the baby, dead. In one room was a daughter, dead. In another the fait her was found partially dressed. He had apparently gone to his wife’s assistance. His lifeless body was behind the lied, where he collapsed.
