In view of bis approaching marriage, Mr. C. A. Remnant, of the stall of tlm Gisborne Times, was the recipient of a handsome clock yesterday afternoon. The gift was presented on behalf of the slaif, flie members of which wished mm everv happiness in the future. Mr. Remnant, briefly replied. Miss Karin Warnholtz, a member of the literary staff of the Swedish newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet Suullposlen, who is staying with Mrs. I. S. Williams at Ivopuaroa. revisited Gisborne for a few da vs this week as the guestof Mrs. F. W. Nolan, ami returned t« the Coast yesterday. Miss W arnholtz, will spend Christmas in Gisborne, and will then return to Mrs. Williams’ home for about three months. _ She expects to leave New Zealand in April, and will visit Australia before returning home lo Sweden.
Mr. .1. 11. IS. Jeffareg, who for the pant seven years lias had control of the traffic division of the Public Works railway at Tauranga, Inis retired after, near- |\ d 4 years' service. He joined the Railway Department as a cadet at Napier in 1884. Alter occupying various positions in the Hawke's Ray district, Mr. .J effaces was, in 1900, transferred to the office of the traffic superintendent at Wellington. In 1907 he was promoted to the position of chief clerk to the district, traffic manager at Urey montit, and front there went, to the train-running office at Auckland. In 1913 he became stntiomwistcr at Napier, and in 1921 was loaned to the Public Works Department and transferred to Tauranga.
