WAIPAOA SCHOOL

ANNUAL CONCERT SUCCESS Residents of the township, and district gathered in force last evening for the annual concert of the Waipaoa school pupils, and the function was attended by a remarkable degree of success. The hall was crowded to the doors, and the items were heartily applauded, many of the performers being recalled to delight the audience again with their well-prepared numbers. The staff of the /school had spent some time in organising tho concert, and must lufvo been gratified at the success which attended their efforts. An opportunity was taken during the evening by Mr. G. W. Clarke, chairniian of the school committee, to express thanks lo the headmaster and his staff for the unremitting care they had shown in preparing the pupils, and Ihe appreciation of all present of the tasteful selection of items. Many of I he most interesting contributions to the programme wore made by the infant classes, who followed the opening number, the school song, with a dainty chorus, “The Sunflowers.” Later they sang “Some Folk Say,” “Robinson.'"’- Crusoe,” “Buying Balloons,” “Baby Girls,” “‘Maori Canoe Song,” and “Grandfather’s Clock,” all of which were received with enthusiasm. Choruses made up a considerable part of the programme, the various-standards each being, represented by a well-chosen number. A party of coons lent a broad element of humor to the concert, and songs in costume were given by various groups of the pupils, a “Butch Song.” being especially well liked. Recitations and dialogues were included among the items, and in every instance proved to the taste of the audience. The financial returns from the concert were highly satisfactory, and the staff and pupils of the school can congratulate themselves not only upon giving district residents a most enjoyable evening, but also upon assisting the finances of the school by their own efforts.
