OTAGO’S CHAMPIONSHIP PROSPECTS Miss Kathleen Miller, the New Zealand ladies’ middle distance swimming champion, is expected to leave Dunedin this week for Wellington. Her mother i.s taking up residence there on account ol the fact that, her other two daughters ate now working in that city. Miss Milter began her serious preparation for the New Zealand ehaiiipionsltips last, week arid is shaping extremely well. She lias retained her old dash, though she. has changed her style a little and is now swimming a little higher out of the water than formerly.
Otago is expected to he well to the fore in diving at the. New Zealand championships. Roy (’alders, tin* men’s national champion, lias started liis preparation and is going well, while A. M. ITlx, laid year’s intermediate diving, champion, is again eligible fOr this class, and will be hard lo heat. Miss D. Foote, who was runrier-up to Miss Hood in the Dominion ladies’ chainpioiffiliip, will be a hold contender for the highest lioriors this year. Another Otago performer who is going well at present is R. Geddis, the holder of the New Zealand junior hoys’ breaststroke championship, who is expected to break Leslie Old’s record in this event at the national championships. Otago is prepared to guarantee £SO towards the cxpiinkes of bringing Johnny Weismuller to New Zealand, providing that a two night carnival is held in Dunedin with two appearances of Weismuller each night. ~
