HALL REBUILT, BUT UNCHANGED
EACH STONE IN ORIGINAL POSITION LONDON, Aug. 20. Tlic Old 1 Hull, Lincoln’s liui, Ims betMi taken down, stone by stone, and is being rebuilt with each stone in its original position —a . remark tilde achievement pf architect ore and archie, ologv which will have taken four years to accomplish. The stones, as they were taken down, were numbered and cleaned and arranged in readiness tor replacing in their exact positions. A. certain amount of brickwork has been added, with here and there a little stonework where the original stone had perished, but substantially the hall—which dates from Tudor times —will appear, when it is reopened, probably in October, as it did in the reign of Henry VT.IL, with the added strength of new mortar. The magnificent timbers ot the root have been taken down, reconditioned piecemeal, and are now in their old position'. The carved Tudor panelling has been scraped, but not spoiled, and will soon lm in its old setting at the south end of the hall. It was in the middle of last century that, under the expensive supervision of an architect imported from .Italy, the vandalism was committed of covering stonework, brickwork, and woodwork alike with a composition which lias now been removed.
