*»— GISBORNE CLUB MEETING AT RESERVE The Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club's series of evening sports meetings was continued at the Childcrs road reserve yesterday, when a large attendance of athletic enthusiasts thoroughly enjoyed the interesting programme. The weather was perfect, and both the sprint and cycling tracks wore" in splendid order. The programme opened with a 100 yards men's handicap, three heats, being required to decide the finalists. A feature was the good performances of High School runners, 8. Shanks and A. Owen, filling first and second places respectively. The final was a good race. Shanks appeared to lead all the way, though Owen challenged strongly over the last 20yds., but was unable to catch the winner. F. McDonald finished third.- The time was 10 2-ssec. Only five runners contested the ladies' 100yds. handicap, which was won by Miss P. Tier off 91yds. in 12see. The winner was well behind at the 50yds. mark, but with a great effort went to the front 10yds. from the, post. As in the previous week, the back markers in the cyclo handicap appeared to take things easy, leaving all the work to the limit men. However, P. McMahon endeavored to reach the limit men in the .final lap, but left his sprint too late. D. Millier registered his second victory for the 1028-29 season by annexing the race by a margin of 80yds., N. Bai was third, half a wheel behind P. McMahon, and the remaining riders finished in the following order: E. Algie, J. Bardswell, F, Pollard, M..McMahon, and J. Mercer. The competitors in the one-mile flat handicap made the race willing from the start. W. Hutchinson, running from virtual scratch, took the laps easily and crossed the finishing post 40yds. ahead of P. Kaua. W. MePowald finished third, 'T. McMahon fourth, and O. Lowndes fifth. G. Ingram stopped when 300yds. from home. Considerable interest centred in the 880yds. medley relay contest. Only two teams were in the running, however, the remaining one being handicapped out of the race. The broad jump attracted four competitors, and some good performances were witnessed. A.
