WANTON DESTRUCTION

MORE CHINESE PIRACY SHIP LOOTED AND SET AFIRE (United Service.) (Received Nov. 14, 11 a.m.) HONGKONG, Nov. 13. A wireless message from H.M.S. Seraphis, which had proceeded hurriedly to the Chinese steamer Hsin Chi, which is ashore on Tai Island, near Amoy, reveals a story of wanton destruction. Apparently pirates boarded the helpless steamer, thoroughly looting and setting fire to it, and then decamping in junks. Just previously a Dutch steamer, the Tjitaroem, rescued 200 passengers. It is believed probable that the pirates were aboard before the steamer was wrecked. So far the casualties are not known, but it is believed that they are heavy.
