ILLEGAL TRADING
LIQUOR AT SMOKE CONCERT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, tin's day. Oil the authority of the case, Ericksen v. Oattonael), Air. E, Page, S.M,, in a reserved judgment to-day held,that- it was unlawful to provide liquor at ; a smoke, concert and make a charge for admission, this being tantamount t>> selling liquor without a license.
The ease was against the president, siv-rotary, and treasurer of the Pukera Cricket Club in connection with a smpke ci ocmi last April at u Inch 'liquor was included in the refreshments provided, anil there was an admission charge of ss. .Counsel said there had. not- been any indication from the authorities that the' practice was illegal. Smoke contorts were held quite openly by almost , all sports bodies during the winter, and the defendants acted in qpite ..good fulfil. The Magistrate agreed that ..there, should he only one penalty, and this fell on.the treasurer, who was fined £l, and costs £1 Bs„., .
