Investigations are being made by officials of the Railway Department with the object of erecting a second bridge across the Waipa River at Ngarna waliin. The existing bridge was erected in 1876but owing to the increased weight of trains a new bridge has become necessary. The new bridge will be constituted of steel and concrete and will be placed close to the existing structure, which will be strengthened in the event of a double line being constructed. Bores are at present being put down to test the river bed, which promises to offer a solid foundation for the piles.
