BUILDING OF PALESTINE
GREAT PROGRESS IN 10 YEARS SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Mr. M. Ettinger, a barrister of Jerusalem. who is visiting -Sydney, to-day said that since Armistice day. 1917, Palestine has become the scene of feverish activities. The Jews, facing the difficulty of finance, conceived tiie idea of levying a voluntary levy off the Jewish inhabitants o! all continents, the response is mi minimi income £7CO.CCO. In spite of obstacles, Palestine was being rebuilt. Some 50 new villages had been established, the total now being well over 100. The existing villages were growine', I lie Jewish agricultural population had trebled in 10 years, and cities were being developed jiy the systematic creation of a circle ol garden suburbs. The cultural and spiritual side was far from being neglected. Schools, ranging from kindergarten and culminating in the Hebrew university. had been opened. Ihe university, in* which all branches of science acre •being taught in Hebrew, was being developed. A technical school, agrieul! oral experimental stations, an art school, archaeological research work, and museums had been established, to provide the necessities lor cultural progress. A printing trade, the result of a new Hebrew literature and press, was lion fishing.
