DISASTROUS FIRE

Mr. L. Frame’* hairdresser’s stock and fittings were destroyed, the Misses Cartwright lost three pianos, furniture, and music, while the stock, furniture., and fittings of Air. J. Gunning, tailor, Mrs. Gibson, dressmaker, and W. Brown, commission agent, aie a total loss. The lire, is believed lo have started in the rear of the. building. A heavy wind made a hard light for the brigade. Mr. Aikenhead’s shop and upstairs portion were gutted. The insurances are: Air. Aikenhead, £4009 on the building, in the National office, and £3OOO on tho stock in the New Zealand and Standard offices. Ho will be a heavy loser. Mr. Grenfell, £ISOO on (ho stock in the Sun. New Zealand, and South British; Air. Marty n, £575 on the stock and plant.; Misses (‘artweight. £245 on the furniture in the Smith British: Mr. Frame, £l5O. Messrs. Highway, Brown, (libson and Gunning had their tilling.': insurer! for about £l5O.
