DAYLIGHT SAVING
LOCAL SCHEME SOUGHT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ACTION The suggestions made that Gisborne should-adopt some Joeal scheme of daylight saving received support at yesterday afternoun’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, when u committee was formed to wait upon the Borough Council at an appropriate time in order to evolve some* scheme. The matter was first mentioned when a letter was read from the Gisborne Printing and Related Trades Industrial Union of Workers, enclosing the following resolution carried at a recent general meeting: “That this meeting is strongly in favor of tho continuation of daylight saving as being in the best interests of our industry and the general public.” The past president, Mr. If. F. Forster, who was in the chair, said: 1 think this matter is getting considerable support from individual organisations. Mr. L, T. If there is no legi sluliou there is still a. possibility of local daylight saving, but the difficulties will ike greater. Mr.* T. E. Tonoycliffe indicated diffi culties that would be in the way of tho town time and country clocks being different. They did not want to drive trade from the town.
In reply to inquiries, Mr. Burnard said iiis motion would mean that the committee would have power to negotiate for the best possible scheme/. Tho motion was carried, and Mr. ToneydiflVs name was added to the committee suggested by Mr. Buruard-
