In the county cricket competition, rain on the second and third days spoilt some of the games. Warwickshire scored 244 (Parsons 73; Robinson six for 87) and 21 lor two wickets, against Yorkshire’s first innings of 540 for seven wickets, declared (Holmes 275, Robinson 57, Rhodes not out 52). Yorks won on the first innings. Nottinghamshire made 217 (Payton 75; Entlioven five for 29). and 243 (Whysall 62, Walker not out 89; Robins five for 59) against Middlesex, who hit up 518 (Entlioven 70, Robins 64) and 61 for four wickets. Middlesex won on the first innings. Sussex scored 405 (H. Parks not out 158, A. Gilligan 104, Cornford 57) and 390 for seven (Rowley 92. Langritlge 62, Duleep Sinliji 107, R. Parks not out 74) against Kent’s first innings of 412 tor nine wickets, declared (P. Bryan 109, Woolley 120). Kent won on the first innings. Glamorgan totalled 341 (Bell 89. 1). Davies 6i; Shepherd four for 67) and 199 for four (Bates 58, Turnbull not out 51) against Surrey, who made, 392 for six, declared (Sandiiain not out 204, Gregory 74), and 553 for seven, declared (Sandliam not out 248, GarlandWells not out 61). Surrey won on the first innings.
Somerset made 288 (Longrigg 95, Glasgow 53; Judd six for 65) and 152 for seven, declared (Young 55; Kennedy four for 34). Hampshire replied with 151 (Gresvvell nine for 62). Somerset won on the first innings.
Gloucestershire scored 315 (B. Lyon 70, Smith 69, Neale 96; Hipkin six for 107) against Essex, who made 177 for two wickets in a. drawn match. For Northamptonshire against Worcestershire, Woolley made 71, W. Timms 61, and J. Timms 58, while Judd took four for 47 and seven for 113 and Thomas four for 21. Northauts won. For Derbyshire against Leicestershire, Storer made 69, Lee 81 and 107 not; out, while Worthington took four for 51 and five for 39, and Lee five for 31 and four for 20. For Leicestershire Shipman made 50 and Snarv took four for -50. Derby won. *
