WRESTLING

THROWN FROM RING: "STRANGLER" WINSBOSTON, June 30. Gus Sonnenberg was knocked unconscious in his bout with Ed. "Strangler" Lewis, heavyweight wrestling champion of the world, last night when he sailed through tho ropes and landed on bis bead on the floor. Sonnenberg had won the first fall, but when be was unablo to continue with tho bout, the referee declared Lewis the winner bv default.

Tho match came to its abrupt end within a minute after the wrestlers had returned to tho ring after the first fall. Sonnenberg attempted to get his- famous Hying tackle hold on the champion, but Lewis sidestepped and tho former Dartmouth athlete hurtled- over tho ropes and beyond the row of newspapermen. Ho landed on his head and was picked up unconscious.

He was given 15 minutes to return to the ring and continue the match, but at the end of that time he was still unconscious and Lewis was given the fall and the match.

Sonnenberg was examined by physicians and found to be suffering from concussion of the brain. He was taken to tho Trumbull Hospital and subsequently died, ft being found that his neck was broken.
