SIGNPOSTING HIGHWAYS
ACTIVITIES OF A.A.A. Apparently there is a desire on the part of the Auckland Automobile Association to attend to all the signposting of the highway within its district, and there appears to bo a desire, at least on the part of the Cook County Council to leave tiiis work to'the A.A.A. This matter was raised at the council meeting to-dav by the county clerk, Mr F. T. Robinson, who stated that when the A.A.A. touring manager, Mr E. E. I'liamptaloup, was in Gisborne recently, lie suggested the signposting, in the county should he left with his association. Mr Champtaloup stated also that tlie association and the Highways Board had a conference as to the class of signposts to be erected and a certain standard approved, approval also being given to the association to carry on the work. CV. C. IT. Sherratt raised the question of cost, but the overseer, Mr A. Guthrie, said that- there bad been no .suggestion of payment by the council, though the District Engineer, Mr G. W. Albertson, thought that possibly the A.A.A. would require a. small contribution. The clerk said the A.A.A. and Highways Board were in agreement with regards signposts, and tlie A.A.A. wanted to do the signposting because it wished to see a standard signpost. The cost was to be shared between the A.A.A. and the Highways Board. The matter was referred to the Highways Board.
