REP'DRT BY OVERSEER An outline of winter maintenance work carried »out. on the Cook County roads was givSen to the council meeting to-day by they overseer, Mr. A, Guthrie. The report is as follows - “Erection of Waimoko bridge, satisfactorily completed. “Maintenance: Wet and showery veat’ner during the month has caused coa'itant repair work on the shingle and metal roads of the county. The powergi'adei’s and lorries have been engaged w hen weather permitted on tho maintenance of metalled roads. The bridge hands were employed on bridge) repairs, renewal and maintenance of culverts and general maintenance work. A section of Waingake road between Reay bridge and Waingake school, which was in a very rough state, has been repaired with broken stone, and rolled, and is now in good order. HIGHWAYS. “Gisborne-Opotiki, via Coast, borough boundary to Pouawa river: Light shingle repairs and surfacing with power-grader were carried out over the whole length, water-tables cleaned and small slips removed. “Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere, borough boundary to McDowell’s corner: Metal repairs to pot-holes on unsealed sections, cleaning of side-drains and water-tables and minor repairs to bridges were carried out on this section. “Gisborne-Wairoa, via Hangaroa, Matawhero bridge to MacLaurin’s junction : In addition, to ordinary maintenance on this section, metal repairs were carried out between Cameron’s Hjll and Hangaroa-Tahora junction.” “Gishorne-Opotiki, via Mot.u, Makaraka to Kaitaratahi Bridge: Shingle repairs were carried out where necessary,, side-drains cleaned, and surface trimmed with power-grader.' “Ormond road, via Waiohika, borough boundary at McKenzie’s corner: Shingle repairs were also carried out on this road, side-drains cleaned, and surface trimmed with power-grader. “Patutahi-Rere: Repairs with quarry stone were made where necessary, side*drains and water-tables cleaned, and slips rmoved.
