LICENSING BILL
SOME LOST VOTES THE MAJORITY REDUCED (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Though there is no sign of the Licensing Bill promised for this session by the Prime Minister, the subject is kept thoroughly alive in the lobbies, and one interesting phase has developed. "Both branches 61 the Legislature, responding to iii'vitntitins from the Empire Parliamentary Association, "have nominated representatives o'f the Now Zealand Parliament, to represent the Dominion at the coming conference in Canada. The choice was made largely as a result of certain members' ability to spare the time in election year. The only delegate appointed who will be prejudiced by his absence is Mr. W. .1. Jordan, member for Mh'nukau. Thus there was no doubt .of the effect on the Licensing Bill of those absentees, but tho result.shows that all the delegates from the Lower House, the Hon. W. Nosworthy, Mr. W. J. Jordan, and Mr. T. W. Rhodes, represent lost votes to the prohibition section. The Minister of Labor, the Hon. G. J. Anderson, who is still in London, is another vote for the no-licensing section, and Mr. H. L. Tapley was also counted with tho majority of 11 which voted for Mr. J. McCombs' amendment to place the bare majority in the Bill introduced by the Prime Minister. However, Mr. Tapley is likely to be in his place before the subject comes up again, together with Air. T. M. Wilford and Sir Joseph Ward, who are not on the side of the no-license section.
