FOREIGNERS DISMAYED EXPIRATION OF TREATIES Australian and N.Z. Presa Association. SHANGHAI, July 20. Special interim regulations governing the relations ef China with foreign countries with which treaties have expired, will be drafted by the Nationalist Government. The latter recently informed the Powers that all Sino-foreign treaties must be revised on terms of equality. Already Spanish, Portuguese, Italian] Danish and Japanese commercial treaties have expired, instancing the Chinese determination to enforce revision. This afternoon a, Chinese judge ordered from court an Italian consular deputy watching the appeal of a Greek sentenced to lb years for robbery. The judge based 'his authority on the expiration of the Sino-Italian treaty, and informed the deputy that he was no longer an extra-territorial foreigner. . The announcement was received with dismay. It was generally believed that China would allow the Italians to maintain their former status pending the revision of the Sino-Italian treaty. Diplomatic intervention is being sought. The removal of extra-territoyiaJ rights will be the signal for an exodus of foreigners from China, which is believed to be. the aim of the Nationalists.
