PASSED BY COMMONS "BETTING IS INHERENT" (EI«C. Tel. Copyright—United Press (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) LONDON, July 20. In the House of Commons, Sir William Joynson-Hicks, in reply to a question, said he had tried as Home Secretary, to combat the evils of betting. He did' not believe the totalisatof would add thereto. He believed betting was inherent in human nature as well as in the Labor Party (laughter), but the Governrnent was not adding to the evil connected therewith.

The Labor amendment was defeated by 218 votes to 122, and the Bill was read a third time.
