SPECTACULAR FIRE
WELLINGTON BLAZE PAINT FACTORY BURNED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. One of the most spectacular fires seen in Wellington for some time illuminated the city and surrounding Mils shortly after 2 o'clock this morning. Tlie blaze was m the paint factory of Berger, Lewis and Sons (Aust.), Ltd., a three-storeyed brick building behind Hope Gibbons' premises in Dixon .street. The building was owned by Hope Gibbons.
All the members of the central brigade, turned out, as well as units from Thornton, Constable street, Brooklyn, and Miramar.
Two firemen, J. Wright and J. Philp, had their faces and hands severely burned, and several others were singed before the flames were tinder control. The injured men were taken to hospital and probably will be there for several days. Despite the apparent severity of the fire, when daylight came it was found that, the damage was not as great as it had been feared. The top floor, oil which were, offices and stores for paint, varnishes and oils, and the roof were completely destroyed. Damage was done to other floors by wntcr. The contents of the building were insured for £26,470 in the North British office, and the building for £7OOO in the New Zealand office.
