Miss M. Burgin, captain of the Girl Guides in the Auckland provincial district, who visited Gisborne to further the movement, left on Thursday tor Dannevirko,
Mr. A. W. Kirk, chairman of the Waiapn County Council, has been visiting Wellington in connection with the annual conference of the Counties' Association.
The Japanese Oonsul-Genernl in Australia, Mr. Tokugawa, is a passenger by the Ulimaron from Sydney for Wellington, where he welcomes the .Japanese fleet, afterwards proceeding to Auckland on official business.
Air. A. F. Clark, who has been presented with the diploma of associateship in the Canterbury College School of Forestry, is stated to be the fiifit student in'New Zealand to take that diploma in connection with forestry. He is entomologist to the Forestry Service, with headquarters at the Cawthron Institute, Nelson. He is investigating insect pests in timbers, and at present is giving special attention to the horn-tail borer.
