The'proposal; t/liufi the Government should take over by purchase or by some similar moans from the natives the hundreds of acres of bush on either side of the proposed RuatahunaWaikarcmoana. road, and use it as a scenic reserve, was revived by Mr. F. ' Mr. Smith said that the bush could never be bought more cheaply than at present* and that it would make thefinost bush drive in the North Island. Also, it would preserve the waters in the watershed and' would; provide a first-rate shooting area for sportsmen.

Mr. H. 0. Baird said; that if it were taken over it would help to boom' Waikaremoana, which, though it had been side-tracked for the present, would make a wonderful fishing-ground some day. ~

It was decided also to ask Mr. 11. M. Campbell, M.P., who has been acting with Mr. John- Mason, M.P., in the matter, what the Government had done so far in respect to the Taurangakuma bush.
