TOLAGA V. POVERTY BAY
Public appreciation of Rugby football was in evidence this afternoon when the lirst representative game ol the season was played on the Oval. The contesting teams were Tolaga Bay subUnion and Poverty Bay Onion fifteens, both districts being represented by Strom* sides. The weather conditions wore'excellent, and the .Male, of the. ground was'conducive to fast, and open play. Much interest centred in the first appearance of the Poverty Bay team, for it was anticipated that the forwards would be hard put lo it to hold their opponents, Ihe selectors having been I'orced to replace last year's front-row men. while other experiments had been forced upon them by the absence of stars of last year's back division. The selected teams were as follow:--Tolaga Bay: Full back, Hindmarsh : three-quarters. Kutia, Carrie, and I. Smith ; five-eighths, Jones and Burn; halfback, Bnngi Jones; forwards. Thomas fw.f.). J. Tameto replacing Ourne in the three-quarter line and Kooli replacing Leach in the front row of the, scrum in the Tolaga team. Burke played at fiveoighth in place of Jones. ' In the Poverty Bav team Hansen played at full-back and Wallers was moved back to centre-three-quarter, Duncan taking the wing-lonvard position, and Wbiti filling Duncans piace'ln the side row of the scrum. \t half-time Poverty Bay was leading bv 16 to 8.
