TERRIBLE MINE DISASTER
ONLY 13 RESCUED

A later message states that 13 of the men entombed in the mine explosion have now been rescued alive. Thirty-four bodies have been removed and a like number located. Gas and clamp hamper rescue crews,; who fear that there arc! 120 dead. Pive of those rescued are in hospital and are not expected- to live. .Experts believe that-hone of those entrapped in the mine will be found alive, but alt possible aid in the rescue work has boon extended by the lied Cross and other organisations and by the miners. The explosion took place as day and night mcn.wcro shifting: places, and caught part of each group. The workers believe that many bodies are now hidden in the debris.

LITTLE HOPE FOR REMAINDER
(Australian Press Assu.—United Service.) (Received -May 22, 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 21. The Mather death roll to-day totalled GO, and 138 unaccounted for. There is little hope that they arc alive.
