(Herald Correspondent.) Mr. C. C. P. Brandon has been reelected patron of the Rod and Gun Club, and Mr. G. C. Ormond president. The vice-presidents are Messrs. N. Law, A. Law, and R. S'. Standing. Tho Savage Club patron of lasi year, Mr. G. C. Ormond, has boon re-elected to that position. Savage A. G. Nolan has been elected Chief Rangatira. In addition to the Revs. D. J. Shaw, R. McCully, and Hughes, who, with Mr. Sutherland, formed the members of the Presbyterial visitation to St. Andrew’s on Thursday night, there were also present (though not taking part) the Rev. Mr. Mackie, of Dannovirko, and Misses T. Bain (Dannevirke), Kelly (Waipukurau), and Neil (Napier). Madame Eileen Johns, of Napier, is expected to be in the district next week and will sing at the Anzac Day function in Wairoa. “ Abide With Me ” (Liddle) and “ How Sleep Die Bravo." The following havo been returned unopposed as members of the Wairoa District High School Committee for the current year: Messrs. C. It. Sainsbury, J. Macdonald, W. Clow, T. Browne, J. M. Swain, J. Alexander, Sf M. Ashburn, C. Wade and W. Harris. Mr. W. Kent, the district solicitor to the Public Trust Office, is on an official visit to Wairoa. At the annual meeting of the Savage Club the statement of accounts showed a credit balance on tho working for the year of over with assets totalling nearly £4O. Six new members were elected. An interesting programme was presented. One of tho suggestions made by some of those who favor a conference to devise a. scheme to enable the unemployed to give value for relief, was that the Government should subsidise local rates and get them to clean up* the Hcreheretau block. As this block has now found purchasers this idea will probably he dropped, but there arc other areas of Crown land much in need of attention. The following are the results of games played on the Wa.iroU Bowling green on Wednesday: Fyson, Sheehan, Ferguson, and Williams 19, v. Cullen, Goodley, Andresan and Smith 12; Clark, Browne, Osier and McLachlan 21, v. Morris, Drury, Prcbblo and Sandilands 16; Cool: and Dr. Hallwirght 21, v. Ratcliffe and Gibbs 16. Bidding was good at tho stock sale on Thursday and there was a very fair yarding of sheep, but not many cattle. Prices ranged ; Lambs 8s 6d to 13s 9d, two-tooth ewes 22s 6d; ewes 11s 7d to 18s 9d; two-tooth wethers 22s 4d to 23s Id; four-tooth to s.m. ewes 15s Id; Romney rams 2^gns.; bullocks £6 12s 6d to £7 4s; cows £3 15s to £5 ss. _ The usual dance in connection with the Wairoa Collie Club’s trials was held at Frasenown on Thursday evening: There was a good attendance. The music was supplied by Miss A. Winter, and Mr. G. Sinclair was M.C. The prizes won, were presented by Miss Standing, daughter of the president. The following specials arid trophies were awarded: Messrs. Cullen and Cook’s Cup for best team of three dogs, I). Glynan; Way roa Drivers and Shepherds’ Cup, best team of two dogs, W. Dahm; Waikaremoana Cup, D. Glynan’s Yarrow; Messrs. Thompson and Johnson’s Cup, class 111, L. Lopdalo’s Rod; Ballin Cup, E. M. Dahm’s Limerick; Mr. A. T. Carroll’s gold medal, for best native competitor, S. Lambert; Mr. A. Devery’s gold medal for best competitor under 21, J. Rowling; Mr. R. Noble’s ti'opbv, native scoring over 16 points in class IH, S. Lambert; Mr. W. A. Neale’s silver-mounted dog-collar, for maiden slut, W. Thompson’s Fleet; Mr. J. Vale’s trophy, for best local dog in class HI, -D. Giynan’s Yarrow; Messrs. H. Williams and Son’s trophy for best competitor in classes II and 111, E. M. Dahm; Mr. W. Smith’s trophy for best competitor in two huntaways rind class 11, E. M. Dahm; oldest competitor, J. Howell, sen., aged 82 years. A very fine elocutionary recital was given in St. raid’s Hall by Mr. P. L. Davies, In “Snorkins,” an excellent humorous study, Mr. Davies showed good ,work, his facial expressions- being especially effective. Impersonations cleverly carried out followed one _ another in quick succession. The audience was most appreciative. The programme all through was of a high standard, and was enjoyed by nil present. Pupils of ihc District High School sang two sea chanteys very tunefully, and the senior girls contributed a pretty dance, while .Master L. Spider played pianoforte solos well for one so youthful A humorous facial expression competition was decided bv vote of the audience, Master W. Telford winning.
