The skeletons of five lost girls hart been discovered near Madrid. They had been missing for five years, and the remains were found in an old cave during excavations. While the motor-launch Thistle, owned by Mr. Rogers, was returning from Palliser Bay to the Wellington boat harbor, her engines broke down wheji off Point Halswell on Saturday, evening. A strong northerly wind was blowing, and in a little while the launch was carried on to a lee shore at Point Hals- , well. Heavy seas broke over the Thistle, and her position, threatened to become serious. A telephone message was sent to the harbormaster, Capfam J. Dawson, who dispatched the deputy-harbor-master, Captain J. Spence, in the launch Uta to the scene. After considerable difficulty, and much to the relief of the four occupants of the Thistle, a towline was passed to the disabled launch, which was towed to Queen's wharf. The Thistle escaped serious damage, but her rudder was carried away. Fortunately the tide was high at the time of the irishap, and she thus escaped the many small pinnacle rocks in the viciuity of where she went ashore*
