CLERK KILLED BY BANDIT

LONDON, March 2. The crashing of a paper-weight through a window to the pavement from the inside of the branch of Lloyd's Bank was the first intimation of a brutal crime at Ferryhill, a mining village near Durham. Passers-by entered and found a clerk, William Bayland Abbey, staggeiing about- with blood streaming from his neck. He gasped : " A tall man did it," fell unconscious and shortly afterwards died. Ho was apparently struck on the head by a motor bandit and stabbed twice. ' Tho murderer took £2OO in notes and rapidly drove off in a car which had been noticed in the village for several hours.
