MATCH AT TE KARAKA The High Sehool Old Boy's senior football team is making early preparations for a strenuous season this year. The match with Te Karaka seniors on Saturday afforded an excellent opportunity to try out the team, which is noted for fast, open, and interesting play. Although the game was more of a practice nature, both teams executed some fine movements. The combina'tion of tho H. 5.0.8. backs was superior to that of their country rivals. A. Lockett's nippy interceptions were a feature of the game; on numerous occasions he went right through the opposition's defence to score under tho goal. V Caulton also played a dashing game. Tho H. 5.0.8. forwards held the upper hand throughout the match, and wcro continually on the attack, excelling in line-outs and scrum work. Footo and G. Winter were the pick of the forwards. Tries were scored by A. Lockett (4), R. Aislabie (2), W. Smith (2), V. Caulton (2), Plank (.1), J. Roberts (1), B. Lockett (1), while Caulton converted four, Footo three and A, Lockett one. The game ended 58 to 14 in favor of H,5.0.8.
Costing £2OOO, Feildrag's new football grounds, Johnston Park, Mere officially opened on Saturday by'the Mayor; Mr. E Fair. Tho grounds are perfectly equipped, the grandstand being a feature. Mr. T. Collins, president of the 'Feilding Football A>ub, ■ who is chiefly responsible for securing the grounds, received a presentation from supporters of local Rugby. Two senior matches wore played. Hnimai (Manukau) defeated Feilding by 13 to 11, and Wanganui Old Boys defeated Feilding Old Boys by 19 to 13.--P.A.
