A NEW FESTIVAL

THE POPE'S COMING DECREE BERLIN, March 6. It is announced by the authoritative Roman Catholic paper the Koelnisuhe Volkszcituug that the Pope will shortly decree a, new Church festival, to bo known as the day of "Christ the 'Workman." It appears that tho idea of this addition to the Roman Catholic calendar originated with the Rev. Julius Schuh, of Saint Clothilda's, Geneva, who laid it beforo Benedict XV. in 1917, and in June last year was able to submit a petition signed by 33 Cardinals and.66o bishops in support of his proposal. The Central Federation of Roman Catholic Workmen in Austria, which includes 150 individual organisations and 50.000 organised workmen in Canada, havo also petitioned for this now Church holiday. According to the paper quoted, Benedict XV. cordially approved the idea, and the present Pope regards its realisa* tion as "inevitable."
