WAIROA NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) Owing to the mild season fruit trees, mostly apples, are again in blossom. It is many years since there lias been such profuse apple bloom in April. Mr. W. Whyte, of Napier, the president of the North Island Dog Trials Association, will be a competitor at the Wairoa County Collie Club's Trials. The entries from Wairoa, Poverty Bay and Napier are good. Mr. T. Jjnvery, of "Mahanga" station, is providing the sheep. On Wednesday night the Wairoa Brownies, of the Girl Guide Corps, farewelled Missis Foggy and Nola Whyte, who are shortly leaving for Hastings. During the course of a. pleasant evening at Miss Foot's residence the departing Brownies were, presented with a solid silver serviette ring in ease. Miss Beryl Robson returned thanks on behalf of the little guests. At the last Wellington dog parade a pup purchased by Mr. T. Davey, of Wellington, from the kennels of Mr., G. A. Dunlop, of Wairoa, gained three first prizes and warm [Commendation from the judge. Before Messrs. J. Corkill and V. E. Winter, J's.P., W. Caino was lined 10s for using an unregistered motor-cycle. Tho Soldiers' Cross of Memory in the Wairoa cemetery, erected to commemorate the Wairoa dead in the Great War, is now completed and forms a striking object. The cross will bo officially unveiled on Anzao Day. Sergeant Quayle, of Napier, is relieving here while Sergeant Wade is on holiday.—Mr. R. B. Ross, of PahiatUa, is visiting this district. —The Rev. .1. D. Orocott, ijf Osiinn.ru, recently appointed to the charge of the Wairoa Methodist Church, arrived on Saturday.—Dr. Kalilenberg and Mr. R. Murphy, of Gishorne. are deer-stalking at Waikaremoana.—Mr. A. Mulholland, of the Pub-, lie Trust Office, Wellington, is relieving' Mr. G. 11. Rist, the resident manager here.
