ENGLAND’S PROSPERITY EVERYONE OPTIMISTIC Glowing reports of brighter times and prosperity in England were brought by passengers who \arrived at Auckland by the lonic. One man said that he saw no signs of poverty, and ho predicts that in two or three years England will be more prosperous than she ever was. “I was very much surprised to find how optimistic everyone was in England,." said Mr. R. Wilson, a retired farmer, who returned from his first trip Home for 25 years. “Everything is booming," ho continued. “The farmers seem to bo the only people who arc not enjoying o-ood times. Many of them have gone bankrupt, but 4gislation is to be passed this session to improve tilings. Mr Wilson previously owned a farm in the Waikato district, and later took up another farm at Tauranga. He made an extensive tour through the whole of England, and even in the Midlands and the North he saw no signs of distress. Industries were working to capacity and a great increase in trade was promised. “England’s roads are wonderful, said Mr. Wilson. "They are all as smooth ns a deck—even the small highways.” . . . , “I did not have any inquiries from people wishing to come out and settle in New Zealand," he went on. “There is not the same desire to emigrate, and some of the immigrants have sent Home bad reports of conditions here.
